Sometimes repairing an engine just doesn’t stack up economically. In heavy industry, the smartest decision is often a straight replacement with a new or service exchange unit.

That was the case here. A major mining operation needed its pump driver engine assessed, but the repair path wasn’t viable. The original seven litre Volvo Penta platform is no longer in production and has since been superseded by an eight litre model.

Because so many of these seven litre units remain in service across mining pump applications, CPG secured stock before production ceased. It means critical sites stay supported with the right engine, without costly redesigns or downtime.

When reliability matters and continuity is essential, CPG keeps your power and systems moving.

CPG recently sponsored one of the scholarship students selected to attend this year’s International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) from 21 to 23 October. It isn’t directly tied to our core business, but supporting future talent in the resources sector is something we’re proud to be part of.

The delegation includes Courtney Berry, Michael Dyer, Arlo Goldsmith, Anika Paul and Alicia Welke, each given speaking opportunities throughout the event. Their sessions will roll out over the three days, with timings shared on socials as they’re announced.

This initiative is made possible through the support of several sponsors, including Resource Super, Grounded, R-Group International, WATM Equipment and CPG. Arlo Goldsmith, winner of the 2025 Regional Student Studying Geology Scholarship, will also feature in a roundtable discussion at 2:00pm on Day 3 in the IMARC Exchange Roundtables theatre.

His session explores how the mining sector is navigating geopolitical uncertainty and market volatility. He will share his perspective on attracting the next wave of talent and whether today’s safety, sustainability and technology standards are meeting expectations, alongside fellow scholarship student Alicia Welke.

Arlo’s attendance is supported by WA Mining Club Life Member Mike Cippitelli and the team at CPG. We’re glad to play a small role in helping the next generation step forward.

From One Boat to One of Australia’s Leading Marine Solutions Providers

Managing Director, Bhagwan Marine – Lou Kannikoski

Lou’s family founded Bhagwan Marine in 1998 operating out of Geraldton, Western Australia.

From humble beginnings in the crayfishing industry with just one boat and a couple of people, Bhagwan Marine has grown into a national operation with a fleet of 95+ vessels and up to 1,000 employees across Australia.

Over the years Bhagwan has evolved into a full‐service marine solutions provider, offering inshore and offshore vessel operations, subsea and decommissioning services, port and harbor logistics, crew transfers, diving support and more.

The company reached another major milestone when it was admitted to the ASX in July 2024.

CPG Partnership

Bhagwan Marine has partnered with CPG for more than 20 years. During this time, CPG has supported Bhagwan with a wide range of mechanical services, including routine maintenance, engine repowers, and specialised mechanical assistance across their fleet.

As Lou explains:

“The main thing with CPG is the trust aspect. I know that if we talk to CPG, we’re going to get reliable, honest answers. It’s not about sales pitches. When I’m asking for advice, it’s advice I can trust, and the service they provide is something we can trust as well. It’s been a big deal, and it’s why we’ve had a 20-year history with CPG and beyond.”

CPG is everywhere, including one of the most remote places in Australia.

The team continues to deliver full overhauls and ongoing maintenance for the Home Island and West Island power stations on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, supporting the Australian Government with reliable prime power essential for both locations.

The work covers complete mechanical and electrical capability across both Volvo Penta and Detroit Series 60 powered generating sets. That includes inspections, servicing, diagnostics, component replacement, and full rebuilds.

On site, the crew provides hands on technical support to keep each station running smoothly. Off site, larger overhauls are completed in controlled workshop conditions to meet strict performance and compliance requirements.

It is a mix of expertise, planning, and long distance logistics that keeps critical infrastructure operating where reliability matters most.

Talk to us about reliable power solutions for remote or high demand sites.

Jetwave Volvo Penta Repower

Jetwave Quayside operates across Exmouth, Fremantle, Dampier, and Port Hedland, offering full marine lifting and service facilities.

Their Exmouth boat lifting facility is the only one of its kind between Geraldton and Darwin, supporting commercial, charter, and recreational vessels throughout Western Australia’s northwest.

When Jetwave needed to repower one of their vessels, CPG supplied and commissioned two Volvo Penta D16 engines, replacing the existing MAN engines at their Exmouth site. Jeff Napier, General Manager of Jetwave Quayside explains:

“The two Volvo Penta D16 engines we are using are actually 250 horsepower each less than the previous MAN engines yet they fitted straight in, and the fuel saving is very significant with only a one-knot speed loss. It’s a bit of a shift for the company using Volvo Penta and, it looks like we’ll continue to use them.”

“The service has been great! CPG have been instrumental in working out what engine is required, what vessel power, through to working out how they’ll be compatible with the jet units. They do all the commissioning on new repowers plus organise and are essential in holding parts for us.”

“CPG offer a real personal service, which is hard to find. That’s a real winner for us.” As a Distributing Dealer for Volvo Penta, CPG provides expert commissioning, responsive aftersales support, and access to a strong nationwide Dealer Network, giving customers confidence and peace of mind, wherever their journey takes them.

When it comes to extending the life of hardworking underground equipment, HDD and Volvo Penta continue to prove they’re a powerful team. One of the latest examples? A refurbished Sandvik underground loader that’s now back on the job, revitalised with a new or factory-refurbished Volvo Penta engine and expert work by the team at HDD.

This project highlights how smart refurbishment, using trusted OEM parts and skilled technicians, can give heavy machinery a new lease on life, saving time and cost for mining operations without compromising on performance or reliability.

The combination of HDD’s technical capability and Volvo Penta’s proven engine performance ensures this Sandvik loader is ready to tackle tough underground environments once again.

At CPG, we’re proud to work with service partners like HDD who share our commitment to keeping equipment working harder, longer, and smarter.
